There are many popular movies that have been made over the years where the main protagonist, or multiple characters in the movie may be considered losers by many.
Let’s start with the guy everybody knows is going to vote for Pedro, Napoleon Dynamite. This is an either you love it, or you hate it type movie. I thought it was the funniest movie that I had seen in a long time.
Joe Dirt
Next on the list is our good friend Joe Dirt, or as he likes to call himself, Joe Dirte. Joe is a misfit loser with a permanently attached mullet wig, and facial hair that grows in white trashy all on its own.
Forrest Gump
Forrest Gump now a well known comedy - drama was released in 1994, and is based on the novel Forrest Gump written by Winston Groom. Tom Hanks does an amazing job with his portrayal of Forrest Gump.
Tommy Boy
Tommy Boy played by Chris Farley is a big, clumsy, immature nitwit who just graduated from college after 7 years. His father Big Tom Callaway owns an auto parts factory in Ohio, and hires on his son Tommy Boy to manage the new brake pad division.
Dumb and Dumber
Sometimes being known for being a dim-witted loser takes teamwork. There is no better two man team for the job than Lloyd Christmas, and Harry Dunne played by Jim Carrey, and Jeff Daniels respectively.
Office Space
Released in 1999 Office Space is another movie with a cult following. The main character Peter Gibbons is a computer programmer at Initech, and hates his job with a passion. Peter spends his days going through lines of computer code to update all the software for the Y2K (Year 2000 ) update, and dreams of doing nothing.
Goonies
The Goonies is an American comedy adventure film that was released in 1985, it had a cult following, and was so popular that it was even mentioned in other movies.
Revenge Of The Nerds
Last, but certainly not least is our eighth pick for “Eight Great Loser Movies”, no list involving multiple Loser movie characters would be complete without, Revenge Of The Nerds. Napoleon Dynamite was released in 2004, and stars Jon Heder as the main character. Napoleon and his clique of catatonic misfits embodies the unpopular group of students found in schools throughout the ages.
This movie has no real plot other then Napoleon helping his friend Pedro to become class president, and dealing with his dysfunctional family at home.

Joe Dirt was released in 2001, and stars the always funny David spade as the main character.
Joe Dirt is on a journey to find his parents who left him behind at the Grand Canyon when he was a child. Joe finds his way to Los Angeles, and lands a job as a janitor at a radio station. He soon ends up being interviewed by a radio shock jock played by Dennis Miller, and tells his story of the misadventures he encounters along the way while searching for his parents.
Joe Dirt finds himself in numerous hilarious situations, and makes a few friends along the way as he searches for his parents.

Mentally challenged Forrest Gump is sitting on a bench at a bus stop, and tells the person sitting next to him on the bench his life story starting with his childhood in the small town of Greenbow, Alabama.
Forrest meets the love of his life Jenny at school, a girl who has come into his life many times throughout his life. Forrest of course gets picked on often in school due to his mental deficiency, and because he wears leg braces due to being stricken with Polio. Jenny encourages Forrest to flee his antagonists by telling him, “Run Forrest Run!!!”
Forrest soon discovers that he can run so fast that his tormentors can’t possibly get anywhere near him, and this ability earns him a college football scholarship.
Soon after college Forrest joins the military, and is sent to Vietnam. He becomes friends with Bubba who is a member of his platoon, Bubba has dreams of going into the scrimping business. Bubba goes on for days telling Forrest all the different ways there are to prepare Shrimp. Forrest saves many members of his platoon after being attacked, and is awarded the congressional medal of honor.
It turns out Forrest has lead an interesting, and influential life. He taught Elvis to dance, he influenced John Lennon’s music writing, he met president John F. Kennedy, and became rich by investing in a fruit company called Apple.
When we get to the climax of the movie we find out that Forrest learns his beloved Jenny is dieing, and has brought him a child, his son, to take care of when she is gone. Jenny who has eluded Forest throughout the movie, spends her lasts days in his presence, and leaves him with a son to remember her by.
Forrest Gump is a heart warming story, you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, but most of all this movie will make you reflect upon your own life, and dream big as you look upon your future.

Big Tom Callaway gets married to his girlfriend Beverly, and dies soon afterwards. Beverly, and her son, who is actually her husband want to sell the company, and take the money.
It is up to Tommy Boy to sell a half a million brake pads in order to save the company. Tommy with one of his fathers top employees Richard, played by David Spade leave for a road trip intent on selling brake pads to as many auto parts stores as they can.
Tommy Boy quickly proves that he is not the salesman that his father was, and a series of unfortunate mishaps fueled by Tommy’s lack of common sense leads to a hilarious adventure for Tommy, and Richard.

The movie Dumb and Dumber starts off with Lloyd working as a limo driver, and Harry working as a dog groomer, a profession neither is cut out for. These two are the best of friends, and are saving to start their own pet store called, “I Got Worms.” a store that specializes in worm farms.
Lloyd is driving a lady named Mary to the airport, and she tells him that she is going to Aspen, a city that Lloyd thinks is in California. Mary leaves her briefcase behind at the airport to be picked up by a hitman, but Lloyd sees it, and grabs it to return it to Mary whose plane is already leaving.
Lloyd loses his job as a limo driver, and returns home to learn Harry has also lost his job. Lloyd convinces Harry to join him in a cross country road trip to find Mary, a women Lloyd has fallen in love with.
Lloyd, and Harry set off on a journey to find Mary, and return her briefcase. They set off on a side splittingly funny journey, being followed by a hitman determined to recover the briefcase from them.

Peter goes to a hypnotherapist named Dr., Swanson to help him deal with his job better, but Dr. Swanson dies during the session, and leaves Peter feeling carefree, and indifferent about his job.
Initech hires two consultants to downsize the company, and Peters two best friends, and fellow software engineers, Michael Bolton, and Samir Nagheenanajar find out that are going to lose their job. The trio hatch out a plan to embezzle money from the company using a program Michael created to steal fractions of a penny on a regular basis. Michael makes a mistake in the program code, and they steal hundreds of thousands all at once. Now they must try to return the money before the company figures out who took it.
Office Space is a hilarious comedy that will leave you smiling from the beginning until the end.

Revenge of the Nerds is a great 1984 comedy that features Robert Carradine as Lewis Skoinick, and Anthony Edwards as Gilbert Lowe. Lewis, and Gilbert are a couple of nerds who are the best of friends decide to enroll in Adams college together. Their intention was to leave their nerd status behind them, and enjoy the college life of multiple women, and endless parties. Little did they know...
Lewis, and Gilbert find themselves living in the freshman dorms with many other first year students, but they are soon kicked out of there by a group of jocks called the Alpha Betas who have burned down their own house, and have taken over the freshman dorm. They all end up sleeping in the gymnasium, but are allowed to join fraternities in order to find proper housing .
All but a handful of them were accepted into fraternities. Those who were not accepted included Lewis, Gilbert, Arnold Poindexter - the violin player with thick glasses, Dudley “Booger” Dawson - the constant nose picker, Harold Wormser - the boy genius , and Lamar Latrelle - the flamboyant homosexual. This group soon became friends, and rented a house together.
The Alpha Beta take great pleasure in bullying, and tormenting this group of friends until one day the nerds have had enough, and decide to get revenge.
Revenge Of The Nerds is an old school comedy classic worth checking out. They don’t make them like this anymore.
